Lots of people mention their aches and pains to me, either in class or when they first make a booking. It might be hip pain at night, pain down the back of the legs or shoulder pain. Some people have had these problems for an extended period of time and have never identified the root cause of them and, therefore, how to try and fix them.
If you’re curious to get to the bottom of a similar problem I suggest going to visit a physiotherapist.
Physiotherapists look at the body as a whole, rather than just focusing on the individual aspects of an injury or illness.
They can provide you with:
- advice to improve your daily movement patterns
- exercise advice to improve your general health and specific parts of your body
- manual therapy to help relieve pain and tightness in your body.
So, who do you go and see?
I recommend Liam George Physiotherapy.
I first met Liam by chance when he was out walking his dogs and we got chatting. I could sense his enthusiasm for his profession. A few months later, when I began to experience a niggling pain above my knee, I decided to go and see him.
His particular diagnosis for me was that I was fatigued from over exercising. This meant that I had poor movement patterns, which was triggering the pain. I needed to prioritise rest and recovery. Which I duly did and my problem disappeared. Hurrah!
A phrase Liam came out with when I was visiting him on another occasion was: ‘you got this problem through movement and you’ll get out of it through movement’. It really stuck in my mind and I often repeat it to my students. I really like the sentiment of it. We are designed to move so (serious injury aside) getting the body moving in the right way is one of the best things you can do to stay fit and healthy.
Liam is someone who is genuinely committed to improving people’s health. His Facebook page is filled with his useful insights and links to credible health articles. It’s a real treasure trove of health information. And you’ll pick up on his curious mind too. He is always exploring new approaches and ways to help his clients, which I find refreshing for an experienced professional.
So, what are you waiting for?
If you’ve had enough of that niggling problem you can’t seem to get to the bottom of go and see Liam…and tell him I sent you there!
